The Midwests Fastest Growing Metal Festival Expected to Draw Thousands of Fans September 26 & 27

Indianapolis, IN- September 2, 2008- Monolith Entertainment Group is pleased to announce that Metal Blade Recording artists The Absence, Woe of Tyrants and Psyopus will perform at the Indianapolis Metal Fest II on September 26th & 27th at the Madam C.J. Walker Theatre. The Indianapolis Metal Fest II is sponsored by Roaring Lion Energy Drink, Sam Ash Music, Jagermeister, Axis Percussion, DiscMakers, Zildjian and more.

Metal Blade presents Tampa, Florida metal revolutionaries The Absence, who will prepare for their upcoming October U.S. Tour with label-mates Amon Amarth by making their first-ever Indianapolis Metal Fest appearance on Friday evening. Enjoying the continued success of their second album, Riders of the Plague, The Absence continues to captivate the metal community with their brand of high-flying guitar histrionics, aggressive and punctuated vocals and the precision drumming needed to hold together The Absences melodic and brutal onslaught of thrash metal.
As OUTBURN Magazine states, Riders of the Plague charges along like a crystal meth fueled buffalo stampede before breaking into a heartrending section of glacial leads and enormous melodies. With an ever growing fan base, intense and powerful live shows, and two killer thrash albums under their belts, The Absence stands bound to lead another thrash revolution!

Not far from Indy, in an unsuspecting town called Chillicothe, Ohio, hails the future heavy metal goliath Woe of Tyrants. Signed to Metal Blade Record earlier this year after an amazing first release Behold the Lion with Tribunal Records, the band mixes the best of technical, death, thrash and power metal with some southern fried flair and ends up with an unmerciful brutality that really helps set Woe of Tyrants apart with their signature sound. The band will perform Friday evening with songs from their upcoming release, Kingdom of Might, which just may be the most impressive and amazing technical metal release of the year. If you thought Behold the Lion was solid, punishing and hard to top, youll be unprepared and surprised for an elite album that can only be described as an epic masterpiece, said Indianapolis Metal Fests Velda Garcia, who previewed Kingdom of Might during a recent visit with the band.

Touring off the success of their second album, Our Puzzling Encounters Considered, Rochester, NY experimental/grindcore act Psyopus, will wrap up their current U.S. tour with whats assured to be an eclectic performance in Indy. With heart attack-inducing, grinding metal, that conjures up whirlwinds and tidal waves of absurd guitar work, harsh vocal onslaughts and hypersonic rhythm bombardment, Festival goers will be unprepared for what Metal Blade describes as bipolar dynamics, radical arrangements, avant-garde instrumentation and a melting force of pure speed. Expect a new release from Psyopus in early February 2009.

Metal Blade is definitely proud to have Psyopus, The Absence, and newcomers Woe of Tyrants on The Indianapolis Metal Fest II. We cant wait for the all the metalheads in attendance to see how amazing and talented each one of these bands is live. Each one is hard-hitting and performs blistering live sets so prepare to have your faces melted off by some of Metal Blades fiercest up-and-comers.

The Indianapolis Metal Fests sophomore effort has quadrupled from last years one-day event with 1,400 fans to what has grown to be a two-day, three-stage event expecting thousands of fans to see 60 bands from all genres of metal. Also scheduled to perform are: Divine Heresy, Dew-Scented, Kittie,
Divine Heresy, Mustasch, Ekotren, Demiricous, Shadowside, Level-C, Wykked Wytch, Obszon Geschopf , Threat Signal, Green Jelly , Into Eternity, Daylight Dies, Bleed The Sky, Destrophy, Skeletonwitch, The Destro, Gates Of Slumber.

INDIANAPOLIS METAL FEST RETURNS THIS SEPTEMBER

Following a successful 2007 debut, the Indianapolis Metal Fest is returning this September 26 and 27 to prove itself as the Midwest's premiere metal festival.

The festival includes an assortment of headliner-status and personally-chosen unsigned artists, including three bands that will be making their U.S. debuts.  Bands already confirmed are: Dew Scented, Kittie, Divine Heresy, Mustasch, Daylight Dies, Bleed The Sky, Into Eternity, Ekotren, Skeletonwitch, The Destro, Gigan (ex-Hate Eternal), Psyopus, Level-C, Obszon Geschopf, Black Chapel, Demiricous, Gates of Slumber, Threat Signal, and The Absence.  In all, the festival will host 60 bands over the two days.

With an extensive background in the music business and live show promotion, promoter Rob Mason has modeled the Indianapolis Metal Fest to encompass all sub-genres of metal for a well-rounded and diverse lineup of bands.

"In addition to a great American lineup, we're bringing in bands from Sweden, Germany, France, South America, and Canada," Mason said.  "Mustasch, for example, are huge in Europe.  They recently won the Swedish equivalent of a Grammy award, and they're making their U.S. debut at Indianapolis Metal Fest."

Mason also remains committed to his original vision of shining the spotlight on the Indianapolis metal scene and the bands who grind it out in local venues every day.

"Even though the fest has increased in size, I'm very dedicated to the idea that IMF will be a catalyst to present opportunities to local and regional talent," he said.  "A band we put on the stage at IMF last year was signed as a direct result of their performance.  They weren't a local band, but the opportunity was there."

Indianapolis Metal Fest II is presented by Blind Prophecy Records and Roaring Lion Energy Drink, and will be hosted by Mistress Juliya.  Other sponsors include: Sam Ash Music, Jagermeister, Marshall Amplification, 1Vision Records, Halo Custom Guitars, Divirta, Ltd.,Candlelight Records, Dark Star Records, Epitomite Productions, Airplay Direct, Project Independent, Anchor Recordings, Tech 21 NYC,Soul Asylum Poetry and Publishing, and Blastzone Entertainment.

"It helps to have sponsor partners who share your vision, to say the least," Mason said.  "The support of these allow us to put on a quality two-day festival.  We couldn't do it without them."

The show will take place at Madame Walker Theater, located at  617 Indiana Avenue in Indianapolis.  Tickets go on sale Saturday, July 12 and cost $30 in advance/$40 at the door for a two-day admission.  Tickets will be available through www.indianapolismetalfest.com and at select retails locations.

All tickets are general admission.  Indianapolis Metal Fest II is an all ages show.

INDIANAPOLIS METAL FEST ANNOUNCES HOST FOR 2008 SHOW
Goddess of All Things Rock Confirmed!

INDIANAPOLIS (December 22, 2007) - Indianapolis Metal Fest promoter, Rob Mason, announced Saturday that former Uranium VJ, Mistress Juliya, will host the second annual Indianapolis Metal Fest scheduled to take place on September 26th and 27th, 2008.

Juliya rose to fame as the premier Goddess of All Things Rock. As the sexy face of Fuse TV and Heavy Metal Juliya ruled the world of rock videos, rock VJs, and rock music interviews for 5 years, as well as playing a crucial role in the branding of the network, Fuse TV, in both broadcast and online.

At Fuse, Juliya's success led her to Uranium, Metal Asylum, and Slave to the Metal - where Juliya dished out extreme advice. She interviewed and hit the road with the heaviest acts in metal music, from Metallica to Mudvayne to Marilyn Manson entertaining over 40 million viewers a week.

Juliya found herself hosting Voodoofest in New Orleans, covering massive music tours, including Ozzfest and New England Metal Fest, and representing the voice of her generation in Electile Dysfunction, where she covered the Democratic National Convention and interviewed the top brass.

With a style all her own and attitude to match, Juliya's rising celebrity earned her feature coverage in Stuff Magazine, Elle Girl and, most recently, appearances in Revolver Magazine, Gener8, Gothic Beauty, Tattoo Revue, Varla and Maxim Magazine. She was voted Favorite VJ by Revolver readers, complete with a centerfold!

"To say that we're excited about Juliya hosting both days of the show would be a huge understatement. She's a metal icon," Mason says.

The announcement comes three months to the day following the first annual Indianapolis Metal Fest, which took place on September 22. According to Mason, "The first show proved what many of us here already knew. The Indianapolis metal scene rules! With only nine months to go until the next show, we're not resting on our laurels. Plans for IMF 2 have been in full swing for several weeks. The Juliya announcement is only the first of many surprises in store for the fans, bands, vendors and sponsors. IMF 2 is going to blow your mind!"

Indianapolis Metal Fest

Birdy’s and KOC ballroom
Saturday, Sept. 22

By the time headliners Alabama Thunderpussy and Obituary rocked the Knights of Columbus ballroom late Saturday night, it was already apparent the inaugural running of the Indianapolis Metal Fest was a hit.

The crowd was a mix of old-school leather dudes, younger green-dreadlocked guys, their hot girlfriends and even a couple metal families with infants as young as 14 months old (who were seen giving the metal horns).

Splitting the show up between Birdy’s and the KOC ballroom meant you didn’t have to stand in one spot for too long, and with a quick step across the street between venues, you could pretty much catch every band on the itinerary.

With 30-some bands playing, the ones that stood out not only played well, but actually entertained the crowds rather than expecting unearned circle pits. None were more interesting to watch than Maggot Twat. The two-piece extreme metal parody band from Chicago certainly drew big laughs between a break-dancing, aluminum foil-masked bass player and a puppet drummer (really), but it’s up for debate as to whether they were actually playing, or if the music was just pumped through the P.A.

Another band that worked the crowd was Brazil’s Shadowside, who, after a problem with their visa, missed other planned U.S. dates, and the IMF turned out to be their only North American show, though singer Dani Nolden promised to return in December. Playing right in the middle of the evening, the band faced a crowd that could have started nodding off if not for Nolden’s enthusiastic stage presence. The band’s cover of Dio’s “Rainbow in the Dark” didn’t hurt either.

Photographer turned author Chris A., who was on hand to sign copies of his book, A Vulgar Display of Power: Courage and Carnage at the Alrosa Villa, said that while he was happy to make appearances and meet new fans, he was disappointed overall in the reception for his work. “People just think it’s an unauthorized bio of Dimebag Darrell,” he says of the chilling recount of the events leading up to and fallout after the legendary guitar player’s death on stage in 2004. “People need to know there were three other people killed that night, all trying to help.”

Though the IMF wasn’t full of household names, it was a great day for diverse metal styles and fans.

Saturday, Sept. 22
Knights of Columbus Hall Ballroom, 2100 E. 71st St., noon, all-ages
Birdy’s Bar & Grill, 2 p.m., 21+, $15/$20 (good for both venues)
www.indianapolismetalfest.com

In the tradition of the legendary Milwaukee Metal Fest, Indianapolis is now home to two marquee metal showcases: next month’s Crossroads of Evolution and this weekend’s inaugural Indianapolis Metal Fest.

While Crossroads will span a weekend at the Emerson, the IMF will condense their show into one day by splitting up the 30-plus bands between Birdy’s and the Knights of Columbus Hall Ballroom.

Bands ranging in style from black metal and death to stoner rock and doom will round out the showcase, meaning square residents in the 71st Street and Keystone area should be on the lookout for a surplus of long-haired dudes sporting tight black jeans this weekend.

Headliners include metal kings Obituary and truck stop rockers Alabama Thunderpussy. Also, making their first appearance stateside will be the hot female-fronted Brazilian power metal band Shadowside.

Old-school metal fans will no doubt want to take in Temple of Brutality, featuring Stet Howland of W.A.S.P., and Dave Ellefson, former bassist for Megadeth.

Besides the top acts, the festival is supporting the scene. Rob Mason, whom many will remember as the guitarist for Thundercore, conceived the event. Not only are upwards of a dozen local and regional bands playing the fest, but Mason is encouraging bands to sell their merch and actually keep the profits.

Concertgoers will be able to chat with reps from Metal Maniacs magazine and Victory Records, both of which are sponsors. Also, Greg Bennett guitars will give away a couple axes to up-and-coming shredders.

Another attraction of note will be the attendance of photographer Chris A. and police officer James Niggemeyer, authors of A Vulgar Display of Power: Courage and Carnage at the Alrosa Villa, the book that outlines the story of Dimebag Darrell’s death on stage at an Ohio nightclub in 2004.

OBITUARY RELEASE DATE DRAWING NEAR

Philadelphia - Anticipation continues to build for the August 28 release date of Xecutioner's Return, the new album from death metal legends Obituary. The limited box version of the record has already sold out its worldwide pressing of 10,000 units with pre-orders for the album continuing to come in daily. Kerrang recently said Xecutioner's Return finds, "form not witnessed since the early '90s... the distorted sludge and swampy groove that made Obituary one of the most distinctive of death metal's first wave are well and intact."

Gracing the cover of Metal Maniacs' October issue (hitting newstands tomorrow August 21), the band have been overwhelmed by media accolades and international support.

"Evil Ways," the lead single from the album is currently available as an advance single exclusively from iTunes. Sirius Satellite Radio has been spinning the track as a companion promotion for the single's
availability. iTune subscribers can purchase the track by visiting the official iTunes store.

Obituary kicks off their US tour September 8 in Miami with the tour ending in New Orleans in early October. The band will be supported by Alabama Thunderpussy, Full Blown Chaos and labelmates Hemlock. Full details are available at both the band and Candlelight's official websites.

SHADOWSIDE WIN INTERNATIONAL MUSIC CONTEST

Shadowside won the “All Things Digital Hard Rock / Heavy Metal” Artist Contest ran by AirPlay Direct, Vigilante Music, Inside Strategy and Indianapolis Metal Fest.

To Dani Nolden, Shadowside lead singer, this prize crowns the success they have been achieving in North America. “We’re really proud for winning this. We didn’t expect a Brazilian band would come out as the winner, due to the distance. Bands worldwide entered the contest and that makes everything even more important. Before we were even notified of the victory, we were already receiving lots of messages on MySpace congratulating us, which demonstrates the exposition this competition had. This is wonderful to us!”

Throughout the month of July, AirPlay Direct, Vigilante Music, Inside Strategy and Indianapolis Metal Fest reviewed material from all the bands until the winner’s choice. As a prize, Shadowside will receive a promo campaign in North America and Europe, as well as performing on Indianapolis Metal Fest on September 22 in Indianapolis, IN, US.

It’s worth mentioning Shadowside entered the contest with songs Highlight, Here to Stay and Red Storm, tracks from the highly praised Theatre of Shadows.

ROCK AUTHOR AND POLICE HERO SCHEDULED TO ATTEND INDIANAPOLIS METAL FEST

INDIANAPOLIS (July 11, 2007) - Rock author, writer and photographer Chris A. is very pleased to announce that he has been invited to sign copies of his new book "A Vulgar Display of Power: Courage and Carnage at the Alrosa Villa" at the Indianapolis Metal Fest One on September 22, 2007. The book details the people and the events leading to the horrific on-stage murder of guitarist Dimebag Darrell Abbott, roadies Erin Halk and Jeffery "Mayhem" Thompson and fan Nate Bray in December 2004.

In addition, Officer James Niggemeyer, the Columbus Ohio police officer who courageously entered the Alrosa Villa alone and ended the situation, is scheduled to attend and sign books. "I'm confident that a lot of folks who attend this show will be incredibly moved by the book and will appreciate the chance to meet Jim Niggemeyer. After all, how often does one get to meet a genuine hero." related Chris A.

100% of the proceeds from all books sold at the Indianapolis Metal Fest will be donated to the Anthony Bray College Fund. It's a cause that's important to the author. "Anthony's father, Nate Bray gave his life while trying to help others. Of the men killed that night, only Nate Bray had a child and besides commemorating his father's life I felt it was important to do something for Anthony's future. A good education will serve this young man well throughout his life."
Festival organizer, Rob Mason extended the invitation after reading an excerpt from the book and speaking with the author directly. "What Chris and Officer Niggemeyer are doing is extremely important. We're proud to be a part of their mission to support Nate Bray's son, and the families of the victims of the Alrosa Villa tragedy."

Regarding the metal festival itself the rock writer can't wait. "As cool as it is to occasionally hang out with rock stars the up and coming bands, the guys and gals slugging it out in the trenches is what I really dig. Festivals are vital to keeping metal moving forward! I hope to photograph most of the bands playing! I look forward to seeing all the bands and hanging out with the headbangers in the great city of Indianapolis!" FIRST-YEAR INDY METALFEST ALREADY GETS AN OBITUARY
IMF I Lands Death Metal Legend Obituary to Lead Talent-Laden National Line-Up

INDIANAPOLIS (July 2, 2007) – Monolith Entertainment Group (MEG) announced today that Florida’s death metal icon Obituary has signed on as event headliner for Indianapolis Metal Fest I – presented by Blind Prophecy Records. Obituary joins Full Blown Chaos, Alabama Thunderpussy, and Temple of Brutality at the September 22 celebration of national and unsigned underground metal.

“We are more than a little bit excited about this,” says MEG President Rob Mason. “This event is all about the bands and the fans – and we are bringing them the best underground metal in the world. To have bands like Obituary – who’s disc “Executioner’s Return” will have come out only a few weeks before the show – and Temple of Brutality – which features former Megadeth bassist Dave Ellefson and W.A.S.P.’s Stet Howland on drums – play the inaugural event only underscores the truth behind our mission.

Rounding out the national roster are Daath, Beneath the Sky, Destrophy, Emmure, Hemlock and Vampire Moose. The complete event bill – representing an extremely vibrant underground regional metal scene –
will be revealed in the next week or so.

“While putting the show together, we asked the fans through our blog who they wanted to see and the roster reflects a good amount of that feedback,” Mason says. “And with Temple and a couple other bands also doing a fan meet-and-greet, this event truly becomes a fan fest, of sorts. There is no other reason to put on an event like this.”

INDIANAPOLIS METALFEST I SET TO UNEARTH UNDERGROUND METAL
Monolith Entertainment Group’s Inaugural Event Spotlights Bands

INDIANAPOLIS (April 25, 2007) – Monolith Entertainment Group (MEG) planted the underground metal nation’s flag into Indiana soil today by announcing the inaugural Indianapolis Metal Fest set for September 22, 2007. The music festival features a growing list of top underground metal bands as well as highly-regarded unsigned bands making for a showcase of 40 acts in all.

“There is only one reason to put on this show,” says MEG President Rob Mason. “It will turn the media and industry spotlights on an extremely vibrant underground regional metal scene. This event will bring together the best of the local and the best of the national underground metal scenes.”

Unlike many festivals, the Indianapolis Metal Fest is not building on a “pay-to-play” business model. Among other differences, bands will be allowed to sell their merchandise at the event – and keep 100 percent of the proceeds. And with an understanding that there will be a strong role being played by sponsor partners, the return on investment will not be limited to them.

“IMF is all about shining the spotlight on the bands,” Mason says. “They will not only play in front of a large capacity crowd, they'll be showcasing for the industry and media, not to mention a slew of new fans. And it won't cost them a dime.”

Indianapolis, the home of the Midwest Music Summit, the 2006 NAMM Summer Session, and Indianapolis Jazz Fest (to name a few), is becoming well known for its diverse array of great musical talent and sizzling nightlife. IMF will only shed more light on that reputation.

Mason cut his teeth over the last decade not only playing on the Central Indiana metal scene, but also as an organizer of Milwaukee Metal Fest. Through those experiences, Mason has been able to build relationships across various metal genres. That variety of underground music will be apparent when the final bill is released.

Already a handful of record labels as well as regional radio stations are on board as sponsor partners, providing some very strong momentum heading into the tail end of Spring.
